PM meets MBS and Macron on the margins of the global water meeting.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized on Tuesday the importance of strong political will and global leadership in addressing the global water crisis, which poses an existential threat to nations around the world, and urged the international community to act to protect rapidly depleting water resources.

Speaking at the 'One Water Summit' in Riyadh, Prime Minister Shehbaz stated that "water scarcity is the world's biggest challenge and requires urgent action." He emphasized the significance of water conservation, saying that water scarcity is causing drought conditions around the world.

The prime minister also brought the world's attention to the destruction caused by Pakistan's 2022 floods, emphasizing the necessity for new dams in the country to minimize water waste.

PM Shehbaz met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman on the sidelines of the summit and complimented him for his Vision 2030 program and other climate-related activities.

Later, a PM Office statement stated that he had a friendly and courteous discussion with the Saudi crown prince, their fifth in the last six months.

According to the statement, both leaders agreed that the two countries' economic, trade, and investment relationships needed to shift qualitatively. The crown prince emphasized the need of strengthening meaningful cooperation between the two countries, which would result in economic growth and prosperity in Pakistan.

Both presidents expressed satisfaction with the pace of work in implementing MoUs and agreements reached with Saudi Arabia regarding investment in Pakistan.

During their meeting, PM Shehbaz renewed his invitation to the crown prince to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience, to which MBS replied that he was looking forward to it.
