ISLAMABAD: As part of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan, to attend the "World Leaders' Climate Action Summit."
The prime minister announced his arrival in the Azerbaijani city on social media on Tuesday, posting, "Just landed in Baku."
Earlier in the day, the PM spoke at the Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh about the Middle East problem. The meeting was a sequel to last year's November 11 Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit.
The prime minister was later escorted out of the International Royal Terminal by Pakistani Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Farooq, Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy, and other diplomatic personnel.
The Foreign Office spokeswoman said in a press release on Monday that the prime minister is being accompanied by senior officials, including Senator Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
PM Shehbaz will also be present at the high-level gathering on glacier preservation, "Glaciers 2025: Actions for Glaciers," which will be hosted by Tajikistan's president, Emomali Rahmon.
He will take part in UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' high-level gathering, "Delivering Early Warning for All and Addressing Extreme Heat," which will address the warming climate.
Additionally, in honor of world leaders attending the Summit, the premier will attend a dinner hosted by the president of Azerbaijan.
In order to strengthen bilateral ties and address Pakistan's climate concerns, the prime minister will also meet one-on-one with a number of international leaders who are attending COP29.
