The Prime Minister's Office announced on Wednesday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had returned from a three-day official visit to Azerbaijan. He was dropped off at Baku International Airport by Farid Ahmedov, the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan.
COP-29 Climate Action Summit
At the COP-29 Climate Action Summit, PM Shehbaz emphasized Pakistan's climate-related problems and called on the world's leading polluters to meet their financial obligations to combat climate change.
He emphasized the necessity for ongoing funding for climate action programs while serving as the head of a Round Table on Climate Finance. The PM also spoke about Pakistan's continuous efforts to protect its water resources and glaciers at a high-level event on glacier preservation that Tajikistan held.
PM Shehbaz met with the leaders of the Czech Republic and Denmark on a number of bilateral occasions in addition to the summit. In order to further improve diplomatic ties across many regions, he also held informal talks with the leaders of the UK, UAE, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Nepal during COP-29.
Azerbaijan and Pakistan, meanwhile, promised to deepen their strategic alliance with an emphasis on defense, economics, and culture. PM Shehbaz and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan met at COP29 on Wednesday and reaffirmed this commitment.
PM Shehbaz commended President Aliyev's leadership in encouraging global cooperation to address climate change and complimented him on organizing the conference successfully.
